The Old Courthouse

Within the historic town walls and opposite Caernarfon’s magnificent castle, stands The Old Courthouse. Built in 1863 by County Surveyor John Thomas, the Old Courthouse, originally known as The County Hall was the seat of justice in Caernarfon until 2009. The Old Courthouse stood empty until 2013 then was converted into a private residence. In February 2018 the property changed ownership and after a two and a half year renovation project the building has now been restored to its former glory.

entrance hall

The beautiful entrance hall has an ornate ceiling, marble busts and three brass plaques commemorating the Boar War & World Wars and 1 & 2.

Food

Food at the Old Courthouse is fresh, clean, no hidden ingredients as we take allergies very seriously and as far as possible, produce is sourced locally.

the courthouse theatre

To the right of the entrance hall in the old Crown Court is The Courthouse Theatre with its 40ft domed ceiling, exquisitely beautiful ornate plasterwork and balcony with original brass rail and exposed cast iron pillars beneath. The Theatre has a state of the art sound and lighting system, full blackout blinds, stage with grand piano and auditorium with dance floor and flexible seating.

the Bench Bistro

To the left of the entrance hall in the old Magistrates Court, is The Bench bistro & bar, a delightfully elegant room with direct castle views, high glass ceiling and bar repurposed from the original Magistrates’ bench.
